ACORN HOUSE
- Luxurious colonial-style guesthouse
- Just eight double bedrooms
- Beautiful views of Table Mountain
- Sparkling swimming pool and unique herb garden
Set on the slopes of Table Mountain in Oranjezicht, the colonial-style Acorn House features typical Herbert Baker hallmarks of white-painted plaster finish, a timber colonnaded veranda, Marseilles tiled roof and decorative plaster gables. It has a grade one conservation rating from the National Monuments Council.
The veranda and garden provide beautiful views of Table Mountain and the city, while the upstairs bedrooms look out at the dramatic sweep of Table Bay. There is a sparkling swimming pool in a tranquil setting and a special attraction is the herb garden with its romantic hideaways. The sitting and dining rooms have been lovingly preserved, featuring wooden trimmings, glowing wooden floors and traditional furnishings.
On cooler days you may enjoy the fire – the best moment for an excellent Cape wine. The wine cellar offers a growing selection of wines from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Wellington.
The eight double bedrooms are all individually decorated, with a telephone, television including M-Net (paid channel) and en suite bathrooms with heated towel rails, bath and shower over baths. A comfortable family room with private sitting room and patio is also available. The motifs of the guesthouse – oak and acorn – are spread throughout the house. They are present on curtains, blankets, paper baskets and even on the goodnight chocolate on your pillow.
