LUNGA RIVER LODGE
- Bush lodge in Kafue National Park
- Wide array of African wildlife
- Excellent birdwatching
- Game-drives, canoeing & fishing
Lunga River Lodge is situated on the northern border of the Kafue National Park – Africa’s largest park. Remote in the extreme, the area is known for its beautiful clear flowing rivers, thick riverine forest and striking miombo woodland. Kafue is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including all the cats and twenty species of antelope with roan, sable and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest being the most noteworthy. The bird life is prolific and varied, including Boehm’s bee-eater, African finfoot, black-backed barbet and sooty chat.
Lunga River Lodge accommodates 12 guests in six well-decorated thatched chalets which nestle under large jackalberry trees along the west bank of the Lunga River. All the chalets have an en suite shower, vanity basin and flush w.c. Lighting throughout the lodge is by 12-volt lamps, candles and kerosene lamps.
The entertainment area comprises a bar and sundeck suspended over the river and an elevated thatched semi-open dining room. For guests who want to relax there is a reading room, plunge pool and steam-room with massage facility.
Daily activities include wilderness walks led by experienced guides and armed scouts in the Kafue National Park, day and night drives in open vehicles, canoeing, boating, fishing and sundowner cruises.
Access to this remote area is by light aircraft to the Lodge’s private airstrip, which is three minutes drive away. The approximate flight time from Livingstone is one-and-a-half hours or one hour from Lusaka. Lunga River Lodge is open from mid-May until mid-November.
