Set in a riverine forest on the edge of the Masai Mara National Park in Kenya, Bateleur Camp at Kichwa Tembo – a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World – is the epitome of private tented luxury.
Blessed with an astounding year-round concentration of wildlife, the Park lies directly in the path of what is considered to be the greatest spectacle in the animal kingdom – the annual Great Migration of millions of herbivores from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.
The Camp comprises of just two intimate camps of nine tented suites each overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara, each with private butler service. The spacious tented suites under wood-shingled roofs are luxuriously furnished with wooden-framed beds, ceiling fans, and en suite facilities comprising twin hand-basins, w.c and glass-walled showers with beautiful forest views. Guest areas include a sitting room with beautifully hand-crafted artefacts, venerable leather sofas, safari antiques and books. There are also indoor/outdoor dining areas and a shaded 12.5 metre lap pool – an unusual Kenyan bush camp feature.
Guests may enjoy interpretive game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles led by experienced rangers on the Camp’s private concession and into the Masai Mara, guided nature walks, Maasai community visits and lectures, and spectacular sundowners on the Escarpment with panoramic views across the Mara. Hot-air ballooning may be arranged at an additional cost.
