The wide grassy valley is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft mountains with a view reaching the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west. In this exquisite position, The Desert Homestead offers simple but stylish accommodation in thatched chalets designed with the fragile beauty of this remarkable environment in mind. It is here that you will experience a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The Desert Homestead will ensure you an unrivalled respite from the desert extremes. Tranquil surroundings, Alfresco dining, delectably fresh farm cuisine, refreshing dips in the pool, stunning sunsets and sunrises are the basic pleasures at the lodge.
Accommodation is offered in 20 rustic thatched chalets, all lined up a good distance from one another and luxuriously decorated in pale linens and dark wood furniture. Each unit has its own verandah under a canopy with Northern views extending to the Rotterkaum Mountains - the ideal retreat after a busy day in the dunes. Inside they provide complete comfort, with large, single or double beds and an en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet. All guest amenities (soaps, shampoo, body lotion etc.) are environmentally friendly.
Meandering across endless plains or discovering ancient water courses on a beautifully groomed steed is a magical and alternative way to appreciate your surroundings. Sunrise and sunset rides are both offered, and include guests having the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal out in the wild. The lodge also offers a sundowner drive in the evenings which includes a leisurely nature drive, slowly winding up a mountain, and culminating in gin and tonics and snacks, before venturing home again.
