Tana Delta Dune Lodge is a pinpoint of luxury surrounded by unspoilt wilderness. The lodge straddles the line of sand dunes that shield the Tana Delta's flood plains from the waters of the ocean. Gazing inland from the highest point on these dunes one overlooks Kenya's largest wetlands, a newly established Conservation Area, free of roads and any intrusive development, which can be explored only by boat and on foot. This exquisite remoteness is further enhanced by the enormous scenic diversity including coastal thickets, acacia and doum palm savannah, open plains, and mangrove swamps, interspersed by the slow-flowing waters of the Tana River, ox-bow lakes and tidal creeks.
The lodge's accommodation comprises of five castaway-style cottages, all in stunning locations offering panoramic views. To ensure total privacy, the rooms are widely spaced, and are only connected to one another (and the top and bottom dining areas) by stone paths and steps threading steeply through the dunes. Spacious en suite bathrooms offer al fresco showers open to the stars. There are also two community self-catering lodges – Mt Tana and Mulikani. Both sleep 4 people in 2 cottages – semi-open with wonderful views. Activities at the lodge include fascinating game and bird viewing by boat; guided walks; creek fishing; sundowner cruises in the nearby estuary; and cultural visits to the dwellings of the Pokomo and Orma tribes. In addition guests can enjoy water skiing and scenic sea cruises (fishing/goggling).
