Kulala Wilderness Camp is a ten-roomed camp, situated in the heart of Namibia's Namib Desert, on a 21 000acre private reserve near Sossusvlei. The camp is built at the foot of a rock escarpment, facing west with great sunset views in the mountainous eco-system of this area. The camp comprises of 10Meru-style thatch and canvas chalets, which feature stone ensuite bathrooms. Each chalet is perchedon an elevated wooden platform and has a staircase leading up to a flat rooftop, above the bathroom, which provides the ideal setting to sleep under the stars on a comfy bedroll. The guest areas are also elevated, under thatch and offer a homely and intimate atmosphere with a sparkling swimming pool, dining room and bar – the perfect settings in which to unwind. On the edge of the oldest desert in the world, wildlife here is sparse, but fascinating. Sightings of animals such as springbok, gemsbok, ostrich, bat-eared fox and aardwolf are exciting in these rugged conditions. This camp caters mainly to the self-drive market, but guided excursions and game drives are offered. Activities include early morning guided game drives to the Sossusvleidunes; nature drives, walks on the private reserve and day trips into the Namib-Naukluft Mountains.
