Tana, as the city is affectionately referred to as, has unusual French and Asian inspired architecture and winding cobblestone streets and staircases that create a medieval impression.
From the city, there is a fabulous excursion to Lake Tritriva, an 80m deep emerald-green crater lake. Apart from its sheer beauty, Lake Tritriva has many interesting features: the water level rises in the dry season, and debris thrown into the lake has reappeared down in the valley, supporting the theory of underground water channels. Walks around the lake offer impressive views of the lake and the surrounding countryside.
On the way back, experience Antsirabe in the afternoon and visit the various craft workers, or soak in the thermal baths.The floriferous town of Antsirabe was a spa resort for French colonists and the Malagasy elite. Antsirabe is one of the most charming towns in Madagascar. Swarming with “pousse-pousse” are rickshaw carts, eager to take travelers to Joseph’s gemstone shop, various craft centres and the lively market, worthwhile places to visit.
