ETOSHA, NAMIBIA
Embark on a safari in the Etosha National Park - one of Africa’s great parks in both size
(22 270 square kilometres / 57 680 square miles) and diversity of wildlife. The vast Salt Pan is a silvery-white shallow depression filled with water only during the rainy season. Springs on the edge of the Pan attract a variety of wildlife and birds during the dry season.
ABOUT ETOSHA
Etosha
Etosha is famed for its diversity of wildlife, and in October and November large herds of blue wildebeest, zebra, springbok and oryx migrate from the Namutoni area to Okaukuejo, where they remain until around May. Lion and rhino are commonly seen, and leopard sightings are fairly frequent.
340 species of birds have been recorded in the Park and about 114 mammal and 110 reptile species live in the Park. The most remarkable feature of Etosha is the Pan itself – a vast shallow depression which becomes a lake when good rains fall. This Pan is so huge it can be seen from space and has a sodium content of more than 3% which attracts wildlife requiring salt in their diet.
