South Kruger is part of the original Sabie Game Reserve that was proclaimed in 1898 by then president Paul Kruger. It is the most popular section of the Kruger Park as it is most easily accessible and the wildlife in this area is phenomenal due to the high rainfall and dense vegetation.

The Southern part of the Kruger Park falls within the area known as the Lowveld. It is a rich habitat and the congregation point of the numerous wildlife reserves and surrounding farmlands.
The Crocodile River marks the Kruger's Southern boundary, and provides a wonderful entry or exit point to the park as it provides a permanent watering hole for thirsty game. Accommodation in the area is varied, ranging from budget bungalows to luxury lodges.
