DURBAN, KWAZULU-NATAL
Durban is a sub-tropical city and major holiday resort, in addition to being the gateway to KwaZulu-Natal. It offers a unique mix of Zulu, Indian and colonial cultures. A major port city, Durban’s harbour is the busiest in South Africa and also one of the 10 largest in the world.
ABOUT DURBAN
Durban
Often referred to as South Africa’s Miami Beach, Durban is one of the fastest growing urban areas in the world. Luxury hotels line the 6-kilometre (3.7-mile) beachfront, known as the Golden Mile. A truly African experience is to take a trip on a ricksha, a small cart pulled by an elaborately decorated Zulu.
The city is a popular tourist destination due to its warm seas, safe beaches, balmy climate and numerous scenic attractions. Durban is also now positioning itself as the conference capital of South Africa - with its International Conference Centre ranking amongst the top facilities in the world. When visiting this vibrant city be sure to visit Ushaka – a 16ha marine theme park, go dolphin watching, taste bunny chow and an array of Indian-flavoured dishes, enjoy great seafood along the Golden Mile and experience the curious mix of Africa meets India in food, music and culture.
Visitors to Durban can visit Anglo-Zulu battlefields, take a fascinating glimpse into Zulu culture in Zululand, hike in the awesome Drakensberg Mountains and dive the reefs, marine and coastal reserves of the North Coast.
