CAPRICORN, LIMPOPO
The name Capricorn is derived from the Tropic of Capricorn, the bottom of which crosses the Limpopo Province and the northern section of this region. Capricorn's position makes it a perfect stopover between Gauteng and the northern areas of the province and between the country's North-Western areas and the world-renowned Kruger National Park.
ABOUT CAPRICORN
Capricorn
Numerous picturesque villages and game-rich reserves comprise the region of Capricorn in Limpopo. The Capital, Polokwane, means “Place of Safety” and is characterised by wide streets, numerous parks and sparkling fountains.
The Polokwane Game Reserve adjacent to the city is one of the largest municipal-owned game reserves in South Africa. And a visit to the Bird and Reptile Park is a definite highlight.
The town of Mokopane, just two hours from Gauteng, serves a rich agricultural area in which wheat, tobacco, cotton, beef, maize, peanuts and citrus are farmed. The town is also an ideal stopover for travellers en route to the Greater Kruger area.
Named after Colonel Stephenson Hamilton, who was instrumental in establishing the world-famous Kruger National Park, Hamilton's Tented Camp reflects a safari adventure of the early twentieth century.
