TIMBAVATI, GREATER KRUGER PARK LIMPOPO
Timbavati Game Reserve was established in 1956 by conservation-minded game farmers. With no fences separating the reserve from the Kruger National Park, herds roam freely in this 68 000-hectare haven. Timbavati is known for its “white lions” which have white fur due to the presence of a recessive gene.
ABOUT TIMBAVATI
Timbavati
The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve came into existence on July 1956, when a group of conservation-minded persons who owned game farms on the western boundary of the Kruger Park came together to form the Timbavati Association. Numerous species of game abound, the most famous of which are the “white lions”.
The white lions of Timbavati were discovered in the early 1970s. Timbavati became well known for these remarkable lions, and as a result the commercial lodges in the reserve became popular tourist destinations. Although there are currently no white lions in the reserve, the recessive gene causing this unusual phenomenon is still carried by the local prides, which are discernibly paler than most other lions by comparison.
Another private Reserve, namely Manyeleti, and the Northern Kruger area provide remote and wild African experiences.
Situated in the Thornybush Nature Reserve, close to the world-famous Kruger National Park, Royal Malewane features six regal suites resting in harmony within magnificent surroundings.
