LAKE KARIBA, ZIMBABWE
Lake Kariba is a beautiful, man-made expanse of water supporting an abundance of flora and fauna, creating the most magnificent backdrop for a phenomenal Kariba safari and spectacular sunsets over the crimson lake. The creation of Lake Kariba, in 1958, was a remarkable feat of engineering and environmental conservation.
ABOUT LAKE KARIBA
Lake Kariba
Lake Kariba is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, with abundant game-sightings and excellent angling for bream and tiger fish. The Lake provides pleasure to locals and visitors alike with fishing, canoeing, sailing or drifting along on a houseboat.
Wildlife sightings on the banks of Kariba are thrilling. Elephant, buffalo, crocodile and a host of smaller game abound, many of them the refugees of the translocation operation of thousands of animals in preparation for the flooding of the valley to create the dam.
The Hide is one of the few camps to be situated inside Hwange National Park. Unlike most other camps in Zimbabwe, no long drives are necessary to reach the park. In fact, the one and a half hour drive from Hwange Airport to the camp takes you on an enjoyable trip through the National Park, serving as an introductory game drive and guests’ first taste of a Zimbabwean safari.
Matetsi Water Lodge is situated on the banks of the spectacular Zambezi River just 40 kilometres (25 miles) upstream from the magnificent Victoria Falls.
Situated on a plateau which forms a natural boundary to the Zambezi National Park, the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge enjoys uninterrupted views and spectacular sunsets.
