Day 01 – 03: Durban Our representative will meet you at Durban International Airport, and assist with the collection of your rental car. Drive to Hotel Izulu for your first stopover. Hotel Izulu is an award-winning boutique property in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast set amid subtropical lush gardens. A gold-star rated beauty spa and a fine-dining restaurant are among the facilities at the Ballito-based hotel.
Spend two nights at Hotel Izulu. Accommodation is in an Executive Room. Your stay is on a bed and breakfast basis
Day 03 – 05: Drakensberg After breakfast, drive to Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse. Tucked deep into the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg, which is now regarded as one of the world’s most precious natural and cultural treasures, lies Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse. In its awesome setting with splendid views of the mountains and abundant with crystal-clear streams and waterfalls Cleopatra is the ultimate in peace, tranquillity and solitude. It is ideal for its intended purpose as a restful refuge with professional yet understated service and most of all a gourmet experience to remember.
Spend two nights at Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse. Accommodation is in a standard room. Your stay is on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Day 05 – 07: Drakensberg After breakfast it is a short drive to your next stop, Hartford House. Home to the family of the last Prime Minister of the Colony of Natal, Hartford House is situated on South Africa’s most famous thoroughbred farm near Giant’s Castle. Chosen by the rulers of Dubai as the location for their priceless stallions, the ‘gem of the Midlands’ is remembered by chroniclers as one of the country’s most beautiful homes, with its award-winning gardens and acclaimed fine dining.
Spend two nights at Hartford House. Accommodation is in a Manor Suite. Your stay is on a bed and breakfast basis
Day 07 – 09: Battlefields After breakfast depart to Three Tree Hill. Surrounded by the Drakensberg Mountains, overlooking the secluded Umfazomnyama Valley of the Spioenkop Nature Reserve and in the lee of the famous hill, Spioenkop, lies Three Tree Hill Lodge. The Lodge overlooks the Spioenkop Nature Reserve, which contains white rhino, giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu, numerous smaller antelope and 270 recorded bird species. On the hill behind the lodge, with the sun setting over the Drakensberg Mountains, the story of Spioenkop begins to unfold as you hear of the origins of the Anglo-Boer War.
Spend two nights at Three Trees at Spioenkop. Accommodation is in a standard room. Your stay is on a full board basis
Day 09 – 11: Battlefields After breakfast depart to Fugitive’s Drift. The Anglo/Zulu War of 1879 is famous for the great battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. Survivors from Isandlwana crossed the Buffalo River at a place forever after named ‘Fugitives' Drift’. This spectacular property, a Natural Heritage Site, overlooking the sphinx’ of Isandlwana and the Oskarberg at Rorke's Drift, includes the site where Lieutenant Melvill and Lieutenant Coghill lost their lives saving the Queen's Colour of the 24th Regiment.
Spend two nights at Fugitive’s Drift Lodge. Accommodation is in a standard room. Your stay is on a full board basis and includes a tour to the battlefields.
Day 11 – 13: Phinda Private Game Reserve Depart for Phinda Private Game Reserve, after breakfast. Face-to-face with lions and rhino, up close to a Whale Shark or battling sailfish, That's the Phinda experience, one of the most exciting safari destinations in Africa. Located between the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and the lush waterways of the World Heritage Greater Saint Lucia Wetland Park, Phinda's 17 500 hectares span seven unique habitats.
Spend two nights at Phinda Mountain Lodge or Phinda Forest Lodge. Accommodation is in a suite. Your stay is on a fully inclusive basis inclusive of three meals, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives, Nature Walks (1 hour) accompanied by experienced armed trackers, subject to availability. Day 13 – 15: Maputaland Coastal Forest Reserve After early morning game-drive and breakfast, depart by air charter to Rocktail Bay Lodge.
Rocktail Bay is situated in northern Natal, within the Maputaland Coastal Forest Reserve and adjoining the Maputaland Marine Reserve.
The secluded lodge is situated metres from the Indian Ocean in the coastal forest, just behind the first row of forested dunes. It offers perhaps the most private beach experience in South Africa on 40 kilometres of unspoilt, undeveloped and pristine coastline. Rocktail Bay received its name after a trawling ship, the Rocktail, was wrecked off shore.
Spend two nights at Rocktail Bay Lodge. Accommodation is in a chalet. Your stay is on a full board basis, including all scheduled activities offered by the lodge
Day 15: Departure This morning you will be transferred by air to Phinda Private Game Reserve. Collect your rental vehicle and drive to Richards Bay airport.
